- WinVCR Version 1.0.10 Trial (30 days)
- =====================================
-
- PLEASE NOTE: THIS TRIAL VERSION HAS A CAPTURE LIMIT - 10 MINUTES.
-
- IMPORTANT:
-
- 1) WinVCR works with Windows 95 OSR2 or Windows 98.
- NOTE: Windows NT currently is NOT supported.
-
- 2) You MUST download DirectX Media 6.0 run-time
- at Microsoft Web site to use WinVCR. You can find a link to
- DirectX Media run-time at: http://www.cinax.com/support/directx
-
- 3) To use WinVCR you need INTEL (Celeron, P2, P3) or
- AMD (K6, K7) CPU with 300 MHz or higher speed.
-
- Recommended capture boards:
- ===========================
- Please see the full list of recommended capture boards
- and drivers at http://www.cinax.com/products/winvcr.html.
-
- We recommend using stand-alone PCI bus master capture boards rather
- then all-in-one (capture + video) boards.
-
- Non-supported capture boards:
- =============================
- Currently those board/drivers are not supported for one
- of the following reasons:
- - No YUV12 support
- - Problems with DirectX Media
- - Drivers issues
-
- 1) Elsa Victory Erazor
- 2) Matrox Rainbow Runner
- 3) Matrox Marvel
- 4) ASUS V3400/3800
- 5) Miro DC10/20
- 6) Dimond DTV2000
- 7) ATI All-In-Wonder
- 8) STB TVPCI
-
- Problems and solutions:
- =======================
-
- 1) During initialization some video capture drivers could
- pop up error messages and close WinVCR. Starting WinVCR
- again usually remedies the problem.
-
- Solution:
- This problem occurs when some "dummy" drivers are present.
- "Dummy" means that capture hardware is removed but driver
- entry is still in the registry.
- All such drivers should be removed (ether by uninstalling the
- application which installed the driver or by deleting the
- registry entries).
-
- 2) Problem: capture board doesn't support YUV12 format.
-
- Solution:
- Some of the boards manufacturers don't expose YUV12 format though
- this format is supported by all BT8xx capture chips.
-
- If you have VFW drivers and YUV12 format is not listed in Video Format
- dialog in many cases this can be fixed by downloading a proper dialog file
- from our web site at "http://www.cinax.com/support/winvcr_issues.html".
-
- For BT848/9 based boards please download a self extracting file BT848DLG.EXE
- and overwrite the old BT848DLG.DLL located in the Windows\System directory.
- For BT878/9 based boards please download a self extracting file BTVIDDLG.EXE
- and overwrite the old BTVIDDLG.DLL located in the Windows\System directory.
-
- If you have WDM drivers, please contact a board manufacturer
- for updated driver.
-
- 3) Problem: Capture driver is initialized OK, recording started with
- "Preview Capture: ON" but preview video is jerky, not visible,
- or computer is not responding.
-
- Solution:
- The most possible cause of this problem can be a overlay
- surface problems.
- Possible solutions could be installing the latest drivers
- for your video card, lowering display resolution, adding
- more video memory or changing your video card.
- Also you could try recording without preview by switching
- "Capturing With Preview" - Off.
-
- 4) Problem: Audio/video sync is lost in recorded MPEG file
-
- Solution:
- This problem could be solved by the following measures:
- - upgrading to Intel PII-400 MHz and higher CPU and at least 128Mb RAM
- - using tested capture boards/drivers
- - closing any programs running in the background especially
- using graphics or hard disk.
- - disconnecting from a network
-
- Also your CPU may not be fast enough for real-time encoding at given
- Video Format and Picture Quality. To find the optimal settings for the
- Picture Quality we recommend running several tests using different
- Quality settings while monitoring CPU load with a System Monitor.
- We recommend keeping CPU load no more than 75% for optimal performance.
-
- 5) Problem: Some features (i.e TV Tuner features) are not available
-
- Solution:
-
- a)VFW drivers
- WinVCR relies on some Registry setting to be set properly during drivers
- installation, which is not the case with some capture boards. If TV Tuner
- doesn't work with your VFW drivers please contact us for updated version
- of the installation files.
-
- b)WDM drivers:
- WebTV for Windows 98 may use your TV Tuner the same time
- as WinVCR. Make sure WebTV is Off or Paused when using WinVCR.
- NOTE: Some components needed for Closed Captioning are not installed
- with Windows 98. Please install WebTV to enable Closed Captioning.
-
- 6) Problem: Cannot hear audio when previewing/recording
-
- Solution:
- For any capture card without TV Tuner audio input should be directly
- connected to "Line In" connector on the audio card.
-
- For any capture card with TV Tuner connect "Audio Out" on the
- capture card to "Line In" on the audio card with the short cable included
- with your card and "Audio Out" from your source (e.g. VCR) to "Audio In"
- on the capture card.
-
- Also check if "Line In" is selected in
- "Control Panel/Multimedia/Recording/Recording Control"
-
- 7) Problems with overlay surface (broken overlay surface when dragging,
- video window pops ups through another overlapping windows).
-
- Solution:
- WinVCR uses overlay surface for preview/playback window,
- The reason for doing this is that it's much faster than GDI (primary) surface.
- Assuming that your Video Capture Card/Video Card drivers support overlay
- properly this problem is usually caused by the lack of video memory.
-
- In order for overlay surface to work properly you need twice
- as much video memory on the video card than with GDI surface alone.
-
- For example, if you have 800x600 desktop resolution with 32 bits
- (4 bytes) color depth you need 800x600x4 = 1920000 bytes = 1875K
- video memory for primary surface and the same memory for overlay surface:
- 1875x2 = 3750K, so 4MB video card should do fine.
-
- But if you go higher (1024x768x4 = 3145728 bytes = 3072K
- and 3072x2 = 6144K) you have to lower the color depth or
- add more video memory. Otherwise the memory will be
- allocated for the overlay surface and the remaining memory
- will be not enough to support primary GDI surface.
-
- Known issues:
- =============
-
- 1) VFW DRIVERS ONLY:
- Some VFW drivers for BT878/879 have a bug in a file BTVID.DRV.
- This bug crashes WinVCR (and other DirectShow video capture applications)
- with a typical Win16 Ignore/Close error dialog box.
- Please download a self-extracting BTVID.EXE from our web site at
- "http://www.cinax.com/support/winvcr_issues.html" and overwrite
- the old BTVID.DRV located in a "Windows\Systems" directory.
-
- 2) VFW DRIVERS ONLY:
- When using some VFW drivers and Closed Captioning (CC) is enabled
- openening and playing a file with the MS Media Player causes a system to crash.
- This happens also when using VidCap or AMCAP with CC enabled and
- caused by a possible bug in VFW driver/CC Decoder.
-
- For this reason WinVCR turns CC off with VFW drivers whenever
- switching between devices, modes and some other cases.
- You have to turn it on manually after that.
-
- 3) VFW DRIVERS ONLY:
- When using some capture boards video inputs may appear with incorrect names
- due to a board manufacturers' loose assigning of video inputs
- ("Video1", "Video2" and so on). For this reason in order to switch to
- "Video1" (appears as Composite input on board), for example, you may
- need to click on "TV Tuner" input in WinVCR.
-
- 4) VFW DRIVERS ONLY: WinVCR relies on some Registry setting to be set
- properly during drivers installation, which is not the case with some
- capture boards. If TV Tuner doesn't work with your VFW drivers please
- contact us for updated version of the installation file(s).
-
- 5) After you install/reinstall some drivers your original
- DirectX Media settings in the Registry may be changed/corrupted
- by the driver installation.
- Usually it causes WinVCR to fail when initializing capture devices.
- We recommend REINSTALLING DirectX Media Run-Time in such cases.
